HS Football Washington’s Graham-Kapowsin upsets Travis Hunter

In Saturday’s match, Graham-Caposin (Graham, Wash.) Scored a second left-hand goal from Joshua Wood to Stephen Mars Jr. on a 32-yard touchdown, knocking No. 3 Collins Hill (Suwanee, Ga.) And Travis Hunter 40-36. Final of the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series on ESPN from Las Vegas.

The 15-0 Washington State 4A champions needed a last-second score as Travis Hunter, the country’s number one recruit, showed up with a 200-yard receiving day and two scores. His last TD reception gave Collins Hill a 36-33 lead which looked like it could be less than a minute left.

On Wednesday, Travis Huntershocked the football world when he changed his college assignment from Florida State to a Jackson State team led by Dion Sanders, an HBCU and FCS program.

Saturday, Graham-Caposin’s dazzling turn.

Wood, the 2021 Maxpreps Washington High School Football Player of the Year, threw for 273 yards on 15-of-24 passes and four touchdowns, scoring 86 yards in 12 carries.

The Roller Coaster game has seen 11 lead changes and has been contested if not surpassed by the insane 25-24 Hamilton win against Bishop Gorman on 17 September. Saturday’s competition will finally be decided by a tick on the clock.

Collins Hill (15-1) trailed 57-yard Graham-Caposin 33-29, three minutes behind Wood’s third scoring strike of the day, three minutes behind.

And it was plenty of time for Travis Hunter, quarterback Sam Horn and the Georgia AAAAAA champions. Or so it seemed.

Looking at their own 25, Horn set up a fourth-and-14 before taking a sack and leaving with just 90 seconds left before removing the chains with their 39 runs. Horn, Missouri’s promise, found Hunter for 32 yards to keep their hopes alive. After a few plays, the Horn-to-Hunter connection pays off with a 28-yard scoring strike that seemed to win the game.

Wood and Graham-Kaposin got the ball back on their own 37 and Colin Hill worked 32 before the quarterback rolled to his left and the ball bounced off the goal post as he snatched the ball in front of Mars Corner Christian Harris.
