The regular season opens on September 2nd This year’s schedule looks a little different as the state’s biggest teams can now officially play games against New Hampshire’s opponents.
Earlier this month, in an effort to help the eight largest high school football programs avoid by-weeks, the Maine Principals Association approved a plan that would allow for countable cross-border games against New Hampshire high school football teams. Eight teams – Banger, Bonnie Eagle, Edward Little, Lewiston, Oxford Hills, Sanford, Scarborough, and Thornton Academy – are members of Class A, the largest classification in the state.
Five of these eight teams will play interstate games. Below is a list of those matchups:
- Bonny Eagle vs. Merrimack (New Hampshire)
- Edward Little vs. Spaulding (New Hampshire)
- Oxford Hills vs. Portsmouth (New Hampshire)
- Sanford vs. Dover (New Hampshire)
- Thornton Academy vs. Bedford (New Hampshire)
